| Dear Fritz, I'd like to wish you a safe and happy Thanksgiving! This is a wonderful time of year to spend time with family and reflect on what is truly important in life. On behalf of everyone here at WWOZ, I want to tell you how grateful we are to have friends like you. Your financial support and e-mails offering encouragement and every imaginable type of assistance are appreciated more than you know. Things are so hectic and we aren't always able to respond to you as quickly as we'd like, but I want you to know that we really are thankful that WWOZ has friends around the world who are helping us rebuild the musical heritage of New Orleans. Over the holiday, I hope to have time to write a more detailed note to bring you up to date on what's new at WWOZ. For now I've included some links to information on our website that I think you will find interesting and useful along with a couple of holiday shopping suggestions and new ways that you can help keep the music going strong. Again, have a great Thanksgiving holiday! David Freedman WWOZ General Manager P.S. Another way you can help WWOZ is by forwarding this message to your friends and colleagues. |

| Dear Friedrich, A tip of the hat goes out to the following people for bringing some great music to the folks at "Friendship Park" last Tuesday. The annual Thanksgiving holiday meal at Loaves & Fishes was brightened by performances by: Stan Alves, Tim Barnes, Dave Clark, Paris Clayton, Don Gates, Marta Gee, Mark Horr, Jacob Jarzemkoski, Dana Moret, Paulette Pacheco, Gayiel Von & Rick Von Geldern. Also on hand for support was Charles Washington, Kim DuVall, Rhonda Stiener & Willie Brown. Thanks to all! This Friday, December 2, Marilyn's on K Street has set their "Grand Opening" with Mercy Me! This opening has been long in coming, so keep your fingers crossed that it actually happens. On Sunday, December 4, the Heritage Festival folks are presenting "Chicago Blues" featuring Magic Slim, Phil Guy, Carl Weathersby and Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne at the Horseman’s Club. Keep supporting the 'blues' around your area! Here's the line-up for this week:

Maple Blues Awards Nominations Announcement | |||||||||
![]() YOUTH LEADS THE WAY AT 2005 MBAs! NOVA SCOTIA’S GARRETT MASON LEADS NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED FOR NINTH ANNUAL MAPLE BLUES AWARDS What: Canada’s national blues award programme Where: Phoenix Concert Theatre, 410 Sherbourne Street, Toronto When: Voting November 14th until December 14th, 2005 -- Gala Monday January 16, 2006 Website: http://www.torontobluessociety.com The Maple Blues Awards, Canada's national award programme that promotes and recognizes outstanding achievement in blues music, has announced their nominees for 2005. The nominees are selected by a distinguished panel of blues experts from across Canada, and winners are selected by the votes of Canadian blues fans. Voting is online from November 14th until December 14th 2005 at www.mapleblues.ca. The winners will be announced at a spectacular gala presentation at the Phoenix Concert Theatre (410 Sherbourne Street, Toronto) on Monday, January 16, 2006. Tickets are available through Ticketpro (www.ticketpro.ca, 1-866-908-9090) This year's nominations are dominated by a new generation of musicians, proving beyond a doubt that Canadian blues has a bright future. Second-generation bluesman Garrett Mason, son of Canadian blues legend Dutch Mason, has made an impression worthy of his lineage, and leads all nominees this year with nods in six categories. Close on Garrett's heels are Toronto's Paul Reddick and debut recording artist Julian Fauth with five nominations each. Ottawa is represented by three nominated young artists: Roxanne Potvin, Southside Steve Marriner, and 13 year-old Elyssa Mahoney. Veterans of the Canadian blues scene who laid the foundation for these younger artists aren't outdone, however. Chris Whiteley received four nominations while Downchild Blues Band, who are celebrating their 35th year, have even more reasons to party after being recognized in three major categories. Four Downchild musicians also received individual nominations. Jack de Keyzer received three nominations to further sweeten his 25th year in the business. The nominations reflect a blues scene that is alive across the country. In many categories, musicians from Ontario are nominated alongside artists from Quebec, the Prairies, the Maritimes, or the West Coast. In the hotly contested Electric Act of the Year category, Toronto acts Downchild and Jack de Keyzer received recognition opposite Halifax-native Garrett Mason, Winnipeg band The Perpetrators, and Vancouver blues-rocker David Gogo. Up for Entertainer of the Year, Kitchener's Mel Brown is in good company with Vancouver's Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne. Acoustic Act of the Year nominees include New Brunswick's Hot Toddy, BC’s Harry Manx, and Hamilton's Harrison Kennedy. Nowhere is the regional diversity more apparent than in the Female Vocalist of the Year category in which New Brunswick's Theresa Malenfant, Dawn Tyler Watson from Quebec, Ottawa's Roxanne Potvin, Toronto's Shakura S'Aida, and the ever-popular Saskatoon-born Suzie Vinnick all received nods. The Maple Blues Awards are supported by FACTOR and the Government of Canada through the Canadian Music Fund, GALAXIE - CBC's Continuous Music Network, the SOCAN Foundation, SOCAN, the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council, and KMP Designs Inc. Dear guitar lovers!
Cold days, fog, drizzle, the political humdrum November can awaken longings for distant lands. We have a remedy. That is, a great deal of novelties to fulfill those longings: Check in at terminal A (Peter Autschbach) and travel to warm climes Arabic music and flamenco by Douar (Karim Baggili), or to the American Dream (Uwe Kropinski). Or how about a road trip (Woody Mann)? The Acoustic Music team hopes you enjoy this edition of Acoustic News. - www.acoustic-music.de |

BLUES-NEUHEIT

Al Jones: Bittersweet (band blues) Al Jones sings “No Pain, No Gain” on his new album “Bittersweet.” After all, the blues survive on emotions, feelings and authenticity. Who would know that better than Al Jones: For 25 years already, the guitarist and singer has been a regular of the German blues scene and numbers amongst the most adept instrumentalists outside the USA. The diversity of Jones’s licks, the quality of his phrasing and the vigor of his playing all stem from extensive work with his idols Sonny Rollins, Jimmy Reed and Ray Charles - and they prove that one doesn’t necessarily have to sell one’s soul on a dusty street corner. Together with his band, this seasoned master has tapped into this wealth of experience to develop a perfectly individual energy, dynamic and groove that inevitably sweep the listener along. This all makes “Bittersweet” a great experience - not only for fans of the 12-bar genre. "one of the finest - FUNKY - Blues CD, from Germany!" (BluesArt-Journal) |

Vielen Dank ON TOUR: Hans Theessink - Band "Live in concert" "A Blues & Roots Revue" |
