>>>>> Bernie Pearl appearing Sunday at the Rhythm Room: Veteran blues guitarist and promoter Bernie Pearl makes a stop at the Rhythm Room on Sunday, July 6, 2008. Bernie has been a blues activist in the Los Angeles area since the late 60s, when in 1968 he began hosting a blues radio show on LA's KPPC FM 99.3. This led to a 12 year radio stint on KLON and KCRW, which started in 1980. He co-produced (with George "Harmonica" Smith) and plays guitar on the now classic recording of Luke "Long Gone" Miles’ magnificent version of “Hello Josephine”, originally issued on Kent records. He was a founder of the legendary Long Beach Blues Festival. He has always kept a great band together, and often promoted veteran blues artists who would appear as special guests on his shows. In the early '90's, Bernie started a record label, Bee Bump Records, and produced records by Papa John Creach and his longtime partner, the late Harmonica Fats. He teaches blues classes at Cal State Long Beach, and has been an advocate of Louisiana Red in recent years. He will bring his blues wisdom and kind voice to the Rhythm Room for a show this Sunday, as he tours in support of his new CD, Old School Blues on Bee Bump Records. The Rhythm Room is located at 1019 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85014. Doors open at 7pm, cover charge is $7. This night will be a patio smoking only event; no indoor smoking will be permitted.
>>>>> Blueswax article and photo exposé from Delta Groove showcase: A warm thank you to Blueswax, the great weekly online blues magazine, for their recent reflection of the 3rd Annual Delta Groove Showcase last May at Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale. This show brought together both Delta Groove Artists, plus artists who label chief Randy Chortkoff describes as "the extended family of Delta Groove Records". Bob Corritore and the Blue Witch Record label are proud to be in that extended family. Appearing at the showcase were The Mannish Boys, Phillip Walker, Jackie Payne/Steve Edmondson Band, Los Fabulocos (with Kid Ramos), The Insomniacs, Debbie Davies, Jason Ricci, Mike Zito, Mikey Junior, Marco Pandolfi, Bill Sims and Mark LaVoie, Lionel Young, Cedric Burnside and Lightnin’ Malcolm, a Blue Witch label showcase with the Rhythm Room All-Stars, Big Pete Pearson, Dave Riley, and Tomcat Courtney, and many others. Delta Groove has put the article and photo page on their website. To see the photos by Scott Allen and Jen Taylor, click here; and to read the article by Art Tipaldi, click here.
>>>>> Sam Lay, Bob Riedy, Eddie Kobek as Special Guests at the Chris James/Patrick Rynn CD Release Party at the Rhythm Room:. The Rhythm Room's party celebrating Chris James and Patrick Rynn's new CD, Stop And Think About It on Earwig Music, keeps on growing! The event, which takes place August 1-2, 2008 at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix now boasts a special lineup of Chris James, Patrick Rynn, Bob Corritore, and special guests Sam Lay, Bob Riedy, and Eddie Kobek. Sam Lay and Eddie Kobek are two of the best Chicago blues style drummers around, and they both appear on the CD. Sam Lay received a Blues Music Award earlier this year as "Best Blues Drummer"; and, in addition to his drumming, will be a guest frontman for part of each night. Bob Riedy is a great piano player, who was the most active bandleader and blues promoter in Chicago during the 1970s. He headed the Bob Riedy Blues Band, which served as a revue for a revolving lineup of frontmen including Carey Bell, Eddie Clearwater, Johnny Littlejohn, Johnny Young, Jimmy Rogers, Sam Lay, Andrew Jeffery, B.B. Jones, and others. His RMR Productions was crucial in bringing blues to the North Side of Chicago during the 1970s, and helped bands such as Magic Slim & The Teardrops, J.B. Hutto & The Hawks, George "Wild Child" Butler, Otis Rush, Howlin' Wolf, and Jimmy Dawkins secure gigs and win audiences that they would not have without his promotional efforts. Chris and Patrick's new CD will show the world the power of their great blues partnership, which often is overlooked while it serves as a consummate backing role in numerous settings backing various veteran blues artists. As members of the Rhythm Room All-Stars, Chris and Patrick are key players, and the band maintains the tradition and utility that was exemplified in the 1970s by the Bob Riedy Blues Band. To see the cover art of the new CD, click here.

>>>>> New Honeyboy Edwards photo page! We have just added a photo page honoring the great Honeyboy Edwards to www.bobcorritore.com. Honeyboy Edwards, now 93, is the greatest living delta blues guitarist, and just this year he won a Grammy® award for his participation in Last Of The Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen: Live In Dallas (featuring Pinetop Perkins, Robert Lockwood, Jr., Henry Townsend, and Honeyboy Edwards) on the Blue Shoe Project label. For our photo page, Michael Frank (Earwig Music label chief and Honeyboy's manager and harmonica player) donated a program from Honeyboy's 1979 Carnegie Hall appearance. If anyone has vintage photos of Honeyboy (50's 60's or 70's) that they would be willing to contribute to this page, please send them via jpeg. To see our current Honeyboy photo page, please click here.

June 26, 2008>>>>> Mississippi Valley Blues Festival Change of Venue Announced! We have just heard that the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival will be changing locations due to the flooding of the original location. The Fest will be held in downtown Davenport, just two blocks away from the park. Artists scheduled for the Tent stage will now perform in the beautiful, air-conditioned Adler Theatre." The 3-day festival takes place on July 3-5, 2008, and includes a stellar lineup of national blues acts (Click here for the lineup and schedule). >>>>> Big Walter Horton in the News! Big Walter Horton was one of the greatest blues harmonica players who ever lived. His tone and phrasing have been essential and definitive elements in the development of the blues harmonica as we know it. He passed away in 1981 in Chicago, but his legacy lives on, and is still celebrated some 27 years after his passing. On June 20, 2008, Big Walter Horton was honored with a historic Mississippi Blues Trail Marker in his hometown of Horn Lake, Mississippi. France's Blues Magazine has a feature article on Big Walter Horton by Rene Perrier appearing in the July-August-September 2008 issue out now. Also, a forthcoming issue of Belgium's Back To The Roots Magazine will feature a Big Walter article in the next issue written by Franky Bruneel with a side bar featuring recollections by Bob Corritore (thank you). In addition, just released is a new Big Walter Horton CD of previously unissued live recordings from 1976, backed by an early version of Sugar Ray and The Bluetones featuring Ronnie Earl and special guest John Nicholas. The CD is called Bocce Boogie, and it is on the Topcat Record label. Thanks to all who allow the tradition of this great man's work to live on!
>>>>> Bisbee Blues Festival Lineup Announced: The beautiful historic mining town of Bisbee, just southeast of Tucson on the Mexican border, hosts a fun blues festival each year. Along with Big Pete Pearson and the Rhythm Room All-Stars, Doyle Bramhall, Blue Mystics, 56 Deluxe, Hans Olson, Train Wreck, and other great acts will perform at this annual festival. Click here for the full lineup and schedule.
>>>>> Blueswax Article Posted on BobCorritore.com: Check out the articles section of BobCorritore.com for its Blues Bytes article of May 29, 2008 from Blueswax featuring Bob Corritore as interviewed by Bob Putignano, president of the New York Blues and Jazz Society. To view this article, click here.
Great video of Jimmy Lee Robinson! Check out this wonderful performance by the late Jimmy Lee Robinson from 1965. Jimmy is introduced by Eddie Boyd, and the drummer (who is not shown) is Fred Below. What a wonderful reminder of Jimmy Lee's spellbinding approach to a song; and his eerie, high-pitched voice is at its maximum effectiveness here. This is from a filming of the American Folk Blues Festival tour in Germany; click here to see the video.

>>>>> Chris James and Patrick Rynn CD Release on Earwig Music Announced! This just made public: look for the June 24, 2008 release date of Chris James and Patrick Rynn's new CD, Stop And Think About It on Chicago's Earwig Music Label. The CD features Chris's great guitar work and vocals, Patrick's solid bass playing, and their clever yet traditional songwriting collaborations. This CD means serious business, and the lineup of special guests boasts Sam Lay, David Maxwell, Julien Brunetaud, Eddie Kobek, Bob Corritore, Jonny Viau, Allen Ortiz, Johnny Rapp, and more! Chris James and Patrick Rynn are long time partners in the blues. They met in Chicago in the early 1990s and their 18 years of playing together has found them in the bands of Sam Lay, Jody Williams, Detroit Junior, Rob Stone and the C-Notes, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, and countless others. They have played all over the world. Look for CD release parties on July 18 and 19, 2008 at Patrick's II in San Diego, and August 1 and 2, 2008 at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix (with special guest Sam Lay). >>>>> 2 great new CDs by Veteran Chicago Blues Harmonica Players Billy Boy Arnold and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith: It is greatly appreciated when, at this point and time, a true Chicago blues harmonica record is released. We are happy to report two amazing new releases by veteran Chicago harmonica masters: Billy Boy Arnold Sings Sonny Boy on the Electro-Fi Label finds Billy Boy paying tribute to his mentor John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson (the first Sonny Boy), with a brilliant set featuring mainly Williamson songs, plus a couple originals perfectly performed in the Sonny Boy style. Also, just released is Willie "Big Eyes" Smith's self produced Born In Arkansas on the Big Eye record label. Though well known as a drummer in the Muddy Waters band, Willie recently stepped out as a harmonica player/frontman with his 2006 HighTone release Way Back. This new CD continues in the same direction, with 13 original songs featuring great harmonica playing and singing. Both releases feature top-notch bands with similar lineups: Billy Boy Arnold's CD has Billy Flynn, Mel Brown, Bob Stroger, and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith (on drums), and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith's CD features Billy Flynn, "Little Frank" Krakowski, Barrelhouse Chuck, Bob Stroger, and Kenny "Beedy Eyes" Smith (Willie's son) on drums. Both these great CDs present the true spirit of Chicago blues, and are cause for celebration!
>>>>> Pinetop Perkins' 95th Birthday Celebration July 7, 2008 at Antone's: Legendary piano great Pinetop Perkins will be celebrating his 95th birthday with a party at Antone's Nightclub in his current residence of Austin, Texas on Monday, July 7, 2008. The lineup per manager Pat Morgan will be an array of great Texans, including Gary Clark, Jr., Marcia Ball, Diunna Greenleaf, Derek O'Brien, Ronnie James, and more. The celebration will also include an appearance by the mayor, and a mayoral proclamation. At his senior age, Pinetop is still putting on great performances and is looking great. His recent release Pinetop Perkins And Friends, produced by Michael Freeman for the Telarc Record Label, with a star-studded cast of special guests, is getting great reviews from all around the world. What a blessing Pinetop is!
>>>>> Tail Dragger, Bob Corritore and Chris James Live Performance on YouTube! This just posted on YouTube: here is a performance video of Tail Dragger singing "Moaning At Midnight" backed by Bob Corritore, Chris James, Karl Meyer, Rick Kreher, and Twist Turner. This was from Cadillac Zack's American Blues Legends Showcase at Reggie's in Chicago, on the night of June 7, 2008. To see this film clip, click here. Special thanks to Scott Dirks, who filmed this clip and posted it on YouTube. Tail Dragger and Bob will perform together at the 2nd Annual Labor Day Down Home Blues Festival on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the Rhythm Room, with the complete lineup and details soon to be announced.
Mississippi Valley Blues Fest in Davenport, Iowa to go on Despite Flooding; Change of Venue Considered: The Mississippi Valley Blues Festival is one of the most highly regarded blues festivals in the US, featuring great lineups each year, as well as workshops and kids educational programs. Bob Corritore will perform at the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival on July 4, 2008 with The Rhythm Room All-Stars featuring Big Pete Pearson, Chris James, Patrick Rynn, Brian Fahey, and Bob Corritore. They will be part of an amazing lineup that also includes Koko Taylor, Billy Boy Arnold with Jody Williams, Denise LaSalle, The Holmes Brothers, Big George Brock, Marie Knight, Phil Guy, John Németh with Junior Watson, Jimmy Thackery, Tinsley Ellis, Teresa James, Steve James, Paul Geremia, Kilborn Alley Blues Band, The Kinsey Report, Kal David, Elvin Bishop, Otis Taylor, Doug MacLeod, and much more. For a complete list of performers and times, click here. Bob will also conduct a blues harmonica seminar at the festival. Other seminars on various topics will be held by Steve James, David Horwitz, Jimmy Thackery, Del Ray, and many others. David Berntson will host the kids BlueSKool program. Due to the massive flooding of Iowa areas surrounding the Mississippi river, the festival website reports the following: "Blues Fest Will Go On - Come Hell Or High Water. We have received many inquiries about whether the IH Mississippi Valley Blues Festival will be held this year due to the major flooding occurring in the region. Well rest assured, the fest will occur. The Mississippi River has crested and its water are starting to recede, but realistically, it is unlikely that will occur in time for LeClaire Park to be made ready for the Fest on July 3-5. Alternate sites are being considered. An announcement will be made early next week on the location of this year's Blues Fest. Thanks to all of you who have expressed your concerns and words of encouragement."
